Q: Why do I need an Algonquin Student ID card? A: Here are just a few examples of why the Algonquin Student ID card is such a useful tool:
Q: How much does the card cost? A: The first card is free to all full-time, activity fee-paying students including International Students. There is a $15 card fee for any other programs* including part-time students. * See complete listing in the Card Systems Office. Q: Where is the Card Office and what are the hours of operation? A: The Card Office is conveniently located downstairs from the Registrar’s Office in C044A. The hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 8am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm. Q: What is a SmartChip? A: The SmartChip is a multi-application chip that has the ability to store a prepaid value directly on the card. You can load up to $100 on the SmartChip. Prepaid value can be added in increments of $1, $5, $10, or $20 at card load machines located around campus. Q: What do I use my Smartchip for? A: Your Smartchip can save you a great deal of money on your photocopying costs. Instead of carrying around change, simply load up your card and save. Future applications for the Smartchip will include vending and parking. Q: What else can I use my card for?A: Your student card also acts as your meal plan card, library card and Health Plan card for those authorized. Q: Why do I need to provide photo-identification before getting my card? Having to show identification is a form of security intended to protect both the student as well as the College. Algonquin College student cards distribution is strictly regulated because it is looked upon as a legitimate piece of identification. Q: Will I need to get a new card every year? A: No. There is no need to get a new card done every semester/ year. Simply bring your card and current semester’s official timetable to the Card Office and we will provide you with an update sticker that validates your card for the new term. Q: What if I lose my card? A: If your card is linked to a Meal Plan it is important to report a lost or stolen card immediately to the Food & Beverage Operations Office (727-4723 x7615). They will automatically invalidate the card to prevent fraud. The Campus Card Office in C044 can replace any lost, stolen or damaged cards for a $15 fee. Q: Where can I take advantage of discounts with my card? A: There are many local merchants who offer special discounts upon presentation of a valid student card, follow the above link for a complete list and details. |
