First Generation Students are those enrolled in a full-time or part-time, on campus or online post-secondary academic program whose parents or guardians did not attend or complete post-secondary studies in Canada or anywhere in the world. If a sibling of the student has attended post-secondary, but their parents or guardians have not, they are still considered a First Generation student.

The AC First Gen program provides students additional resources and support while studying at Algonquin College and preparing for post-graduation employment. The program focuses on one-to-one support, as well as, group engagements for generating a sense of community for the approximately 3,000 First Generation students enrolled at Algonquin College each year.
