The Learning Resource Centre, C205 and C102, have laptops for full and part-time students to borrow. Laptops are loaned for completing assignments, doing research and working on online courses. They are available from the front desk during the Learning Resource Centre's Hours of Operation and are only available for use within C205 (Library) and C102 (Student Support Lab). Other media such as portable DVD players or adapters etc are sometimes available for sign out and are governed by the same policies as outlined below. How Do I Sign Out A Laptop? - Students are required to have signed a laptop agreement with the LRC/OLC in order to be able to borrow a laptop. A contract is signed once a year. An up-to-date student card, valid for the current school year, is required to sign the laptop agreement. Part time students must show a current timetable before signing the contract. - Each time a student borrows a laptop, they must leave either their student card OR an orange part time library card with the front desk. The card indicates a contract has been signed. No other ID is acceptable. - A laptop must be returned to the main desk by the borrower - we cannot give a student's card to another party. - Students with a library fine of over $5.00 are required to clear this fine before they are permitted to borrow a laptop. How Long Can You Use A Laptop? Laptops, like other Reserve material, can be signed out for three hours use in the LRC/OLC only. A late fine is assigned for computers returned after the 3 hours period. At the end of day. Laptops should be returned 15 minutes before closing as library systems are shutdown at this time. Laptop Policies/Use Agreement - The student is responsible for returning the laptop and any peripheral devices to the front desk in good order. Students are financially responsible for all damages to laptops that are not covered by warranty, or are not deemed normal wear and tear. - A stolen laptop is the responsibility of the students and we would like to avoid this occurring. Students will not leave the borrowed laptop unattended, lend the laptop to another student or leave the LRC/OLC with the laptop. Any of these actions could result in borrowing privileges being suspended and the student’s account being encumbered for all replacement costs. - If a Fire drill occurs students should leave the laptop and exit the College immediately. - Students who intent to use the computer to watch media that includes sound should bring their own headsets or they may buy a headset from the front desk. Care should be taken not to disturb others within the LRC with sound media.
