Reminder Smoke-Free Campus Policy

Algonquin College welcomes many new learners and employees on a regular basis, and on occasion it is prudent to remind our community of certain policies. As a result of several complaints about smoking on our campuses, including e-cigarettes and vaping, please be reminded that under HS Policy 10 smoking is prohibited on all campuses of the College, both indoors and outdoors, and on the grounds of any leased facilities that are within the control of the College.

The College ensures its ‘Clean Air’ campus compliance in Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth through a range of measures including commitment to health & wellness through the provision of access to smoking cessation assistance services offered through Health Services for learners, and LifeWorks for employees. In addition to educating our community, warnings and fines can also be issued, in accordance with existing employee and learner disciplinary procedures.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping our campuses safe and healthy environments for everyone. For those who want to curb their tobacco, e-cigarette use, or who want to quit using tobacco products, additional resources for learners and employees are available here.

Thank you,

Michael Laviolette, Director Risk Management
