On June 23, Algonquin College proudly celebrated the accomplishments of its 2021 graduates through a virtual convocation.

Students, their family and friends, faculty, staff, and alumni all came together to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and future plans of all our 2021 graduates. What is your favorite memory from your time at Algonquin College?
My favorite memory from my time at Algonquin College is hosting the African Students’ Alliance (A.S.A) Taste of Africa event during Black History Month. Introducing the Algonquin community to the flavor’s, fashion and, cultures that come from the African continent in such an exciting way brought me a lot of joy.

What made your experience at Algonquin College authentic?
Being president and a club member of African Student Alliance (A.S.A). I felt that in was part of a club that brought together people who shared the similar struggles, experiences, and goals. It was a little home away from home. Continue reading →

A Different Kind of Pageant Winner

Geraldine Trapper, the current Miss Eeyou Eenou IskwaauPageants aren’t what they used to be, and for that today’s young women and those who respect their skills and values have reason to be grateful.

Take the Miss Eeyou Eenou Iskwaau (MEEI) pageant organized by the Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee Association to celebrate the young women of the Cree Nation. According to the pageant website, “one of the goals of the pageant is to empower young women in Eeyou Istchee, to help them grow as a person, come out of their shell, and shine bright for all to see how beautiful and sacred they are inside and out.” Continue reading →
