Top of the morning! Today marks St. Patrick’s Day, an occasion typically filled with celebrations, gatherings of friends, and the occasional Irish beverage to top it all off.

While we can all still celebrate this year, it is important to remember to stay #SocialWise in all of your St. Pat’s festivities, and respect Public Health guidelines. We all have a responsibility to keep one another safe, and our actions today can help protect the most vulnerable in our community. Decorate your home, stay in and enjoy virtual events happening throughout the day — or plan your own virtual festivities. Create new, lucky, #Socialwise traditions!

Algonquin College Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8th marks International Women’s Day around the globe, a day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also calling attention towards accelerating women’s equality. Join A Conversation with Irshad Manji for International Women’s Day!

Irshad ManjiTo mark International Women’s Day, learners are invited to join the Leadership Development for Women Working Group for a dynamic and timely conversation with Irshad Manji. Irshad is the founder and director of the Moral Courage Project at New York University, author of three books: Allah, Liberty, and Love (2011), and The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in Her Faith (2004) highlight the need for reform in her faith of Islam are banned in some countries and bestsellers in others. Her most recent book is entitled Don’t Label Me: An Incredible Conversation for Divided Times (2019). Chris Rock calls it “genius.” Not everyone agrees.

Born in Uganda and raised in Canada, she lived in Ottawa as the national affairs editorialist for the Ottawa Citizen and then as chief speechwriter for NDP leader Audrey McLaughlin, the first woman to head a major Canadian political party.
