Resources and Learning

Today at work everyone requires some level of competence in diversity and inclusion – but don’t worry, just like any skill it can be developed. If you are seeking to increase your awareness of diversity and inclusion in order to:

  • Manage my own development
  • Proactively seek and be open to constructive feedback
  • Reflect on my performance with the goal of self-development
  • Recognize my biases and how they impact on my behaviour and adapt appropriately

Then you are in the right place! Diversity competence requires you to develop the following areas of knowledge:

  • Self-Awareness of values, beliefs, cultural conventions and language use
  • Reflective practice: the ability to reflect on your actions to continuously learn
  • Feedback: effective ways of obtaining feedback, feedback styles
  • Emotional intelligence: understanding of how to change your behaviour to be appropriate to the circumstance
  • Stereotypes, prejudice, bias: techniques to challenge assumptions about others, ways to minimize stereotyping, how become aware of your biases, and implement evidence-based decision-making
  • Organizational culture
