Algonquin College Names Dr. Keltie Jones New Dean of Pembroke Waterfront Campus

Dr. Keltie Jones will become the sixth Dean in the 52 year history of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. The College’s Senior Vice President, Academic, Claude Brulé, has announced Dr. Jones will begin her tenure on August 26 following an extensive cross country search to find a new Dean for the College’s largest regional campus.

“Dr. Jones has an impressive background in post-secondary education and I look forward to working with her and seeing the Pembroke Campus continue to flourish under her guidance and leadership,” says Brulé.

Algonquin College BHTM students place second in global hospitality competition

Algonquin College Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management studentsThree Algonquin College Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management students took home second place in Take Off!, a global hospitality competition held in Paris this week. Their ground-breaking concept for the hotel room of the future — a highly customizable, multi-sensory, AI environment — impressed the judges.

Brielle Pelletier, Yuxiang Jiang, and Tsvetan Stanchulov — also known by their team name “Cultures United” — won the chance to compete against over 500 worldwide competitors with their pitch on how Artificial Intelligence can enhance the experiences of hotel guests. Alex Munter, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, is the keynote speaker. His discussion will focus on youth mental health.

Feedback on our Sex Assault/Violence Policy

The Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities has requested that all post-secondary institutions in Ontario conduct a review of their Sexual Assault/Sexual Violence Policy prior to September 2019.

A cross-College team will be reviewing Algonquin’s policy SA16 over the summer to meet this deadline. We welcome any comments or suggestions you have on this policy by June 17.

Algonquin College launches Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design

The Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design program, launching in Fall 2019, will prepare students for a career in design research and strategy. The 2019 Ontario Budget commitment to create a one-window digital portal for apprentices will produce a more highly qualified workforce.

Algonquin College ranked first in Canada in online enrolments

OTTAWA — Algonquin College has the highest number of online enrolments of all Colleges and CEGEPS in Canada. The ranking was based on the 2018 National Survey of Online and Digital Learning in Canada and used enrolment numbers from 2016-2017.

“This ranking is a testament to our efforts to provide flexible options for all our learners and shows that they recognize the value of lifelong learning in today’s economy,” said Algonquin College President Cheryl Jensen. “Students told us that they needed more online options and we listened, providing hundreds of courses to help them meet their educational goals.” Continue reading

OTTAWA – Algonquin College has received a Canadian Coast Guard helicopter for hands-on training in its Aircraft Maintenance program.

On behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Mona Fortier, Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, and Anita Vandenbeld, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean, announced today that Algonquin College has received a surplus Coast Guard Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm BO105 helicopter.
