Where education meets inspiration

Ottawa is home to many museums. For the thousands of tourists and locals who visit each year, this is a chance to learn about science,Algonquin College Convocation  Honorary Degree recipient Christina Tessier animals, art, space and other areas of interest.

For Algonquin College students, these museums expand the classroom learning experience. Veterinary Technician students work with large animals at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum; Aircraft Maintenance Technician students work on airplanes at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum; and Applied Museum Studies students assist with collections at the Canada Science and Technology Museum campus. Jason Blaine: A country star with a hometown heart

Country music icon and Pembroke native Jason Blaine has deep community relationships. Though he lives in Nashville, Tenn., and travelsAlgonquin College Convocation Honorary Degree recipient Jason Blaine extensively for his successful music career, his heart, his family and some of his best memories are deeply connected to his hometown and to his time at Algonquin College.

“Pembroke for me will always be home,” said Blaine. “They raised me. The folks that cheered me on my whole career, who continue to this day, it’s just an area that calls to you.”

Blaine has built a successful career in country music, garnering widespread recognition. He has earned 13 nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, including a win for 2012 Single of the Year. He has also received multiple awards from the Country Music Association of Ontario and the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. Algonquin College names Angela Rintoul as Pembroke Campus dean

Pembroke Campus. Rintoul is a respected leader in health care and post-secondary education, bringing more than two decades of experience in health care delivery and over 10 years of academic leadership to her new role.

Rintoul has served the Pembroke Campus in progressive leadership positions, most recently as acting dean, where she demonstrated a deep commitment to student success, fiscal stewardship and community engagement. Before that, she served as academic chair of the Health and Community Studies department, leading academic quality, program innovation and financial stability in a post-pandemic environment. Algonquin College Launches AI Accelerator Hub in Collaboration with AWS Canada

New Applied Research service offering brings together technology, people and process to enhance the adoption of AI.

OTTAWA, ON (May 27, 2025) – Today, Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology, the largest polytechnic institute in Eastern Ontario, announced the establishment of the AI Accelerator Hub (AAH) to provide companies and community organizations with targeted service offerings to accelerate adoption of Cloud and AI technologies. The AI Accelerator Hub at Algonquin College brings together existing Applied Research programs at the institution, but layers in industry-leading cloud computing resources and training to impact productivity for local organizations. The Hub, powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), will augment collaborative research projects for industry and community clients across a range of disciplines.

Algonquin College learners scored 3 gold medals, 9 podium places at Skills Ontario Competition

OTTAWA (May 8, 2025) – Algonquin College learners worked hard at the Skills Ontario Competition 2025 this week in Toronto. Twenty-eight participants competed in a variety of categories against top college learners from all over Ontario, and we are so proud of their effort and achievements. The Algonquin College team landed on the podium nine times with 10 students coming home with medals.

Algonquin College Community Gathers on Earth Day to Celebrate New Scholarship for Learners in Environmental Sustainability Programs

OTTAWA (Tues., April 22, 2025) – Members of the Algonquin College community are gathering on Earth Day to celebrate the creation of a new endowed fund. Mrs. Hazel M. Patterson has donated $120,000 to establish an endowed scholarship that will support learners in programs that focus on environmental sustainability. The Hazel Smart-Patterson Environmental Scholarship will be awarded annually to two learners in one of the following programs:

Bringing innovation to life: over 120 student projects featured at Algonquin College’s Applied Research Day

The largest iteration of Algonquin College’s Applied Research Day occurred on April 11, with over 120 innovative student research projects presented under the theme Innovate, Impact, Inspire.

The event celebrated the culmination of months of dedicated work by talented learners and faculty, who collaborated on cutting-edge projects to address real-world challenges faced by industry, government, and community partners across diverse fields, including Computer Programming, Interactive Media Design, Mobile Application Development, and Engineering. Additionally, the event featured eight faculty-led projects from the Research Development Institute (RDI) at Algonquin College.
