As we begin a new year at Algonquin College, we want to reflect on what the R3 Project has accomplished in 2023. So, if you’ve found yourself caught up in the whirlwind of events and milestones (and who can blame you, there were so many!), fear not – we’re here to unpack the highlights to ensure you don’t miss a beat!

February’s Showcase was the first R3 Project event of 2024 and was hosted by Vice President of Student Services and R3 Project’s Executive Sponsor, Laura Stanbra.
🌐 Lois Pollock, our visionary Chief Digital Officer and R3 Business Co-Lead kicked off the event by introducing System Roles and Permissions within Thesis SM. This included an overview of the work set to take place in the Personalize, Integrated System Testing, and User Acceptance Testing Phases of the Project.
💡Rob Kershaw, Manager of R3 Project eLearning and Development, provided a summary of the General User training approach and what is on the horizon regarding employee eLearning and task-based training.

This November’s Showcase event was hosted by Chief Digital Officer and R3 Project Business Co-Lead, Lois Pollock. The event welcomed more than 240 participants from across the College who came together to celebrate some of the highlights and benefits we are starting to see through digital transformation. Participants had the opportunity to hear about some of the processes that will be improved by modernizing our integrations platform.

This October’s BPW event was hosted by Talal Javed, Project Manager, SIS. The event welcomed more than 105 attendees from across the College who received an overview of two business processes from the R3 Project’s Functional Team.
Bryan Eburne, Manager, R3 SIS Implementation & Business Transformation presented the benefits of Thesis SM as a software, and the reasoning for replacing Algonquin College’s current SIS (Student Information System) GeneSIS.
This September’s Showcase event was hosted by Vice President of Student Services and R3 Project Executive Sponsor Laura Stanbra. The event welcomed more than 260 participants from across the College who came together to celebrate some of the R3 Project’s highlights and benefits.
Jessica Devries, Chair of Academic Development, forecasted benefits for employees and learners while reviewing the Curriculum Stabilization Project. This portion of the Showcase included discussing alignment of multi-delivery programs, updated course relationships, and solutions for aggregate/disaggregate courses.
Coordinator of Curriculum & Scheduling Claire Lee reviewed the Program Curriculum setups for GeneSIS and Thesis SM and looked at an example of how it will be represented in the future state.
Sharon Rendle, Business Systems Analyst with the R3 Project, introduced new Thesis SM terminology including Educational Goal, Course Master, Program Curriculum, and Program Curriculum Requirements. She then continued with a live demo showing the audience how to find programs of study and campus offerings.
The event ended with an engaging Q&A session and an audience poll.
As our summer has quickly come to an end, we are heading into a very busy Fall semester. The R3 Project team has been working on providing you with exciting updates, live demos, events, and training opportunities that will take place over the next couple of months. With the Go-Live date announced last May 2023, you are probably asking yourself where we are at with the project.
So, let’s break that down for you.

On March 29, the R3 Project Functional Team hosted the first Business Process Walkthrough event of 2023.
On the R3 Project, Working Groups review what the new Student Information System, Thesis SM, can do when it comes to its processes. The Working Groups then look at how it connects it to our current AC processes. Together, they identify a proposed future way of completing specific processes based on the built-in functionality of Thesis SM. Whether it’s a process tied to curriculum, admissions, registration or another area, it’s important for our College community to see the proposed changes and provide input.
