Course Overload Assessments

Effective with the Fall 2018 semester, students registered in a full-time post-secondary, graduate certificate or bachelor program who are taking courses above their maximum allowable course load for their respective level will be charged additional tuition. This activity is commonly referred to as being in an “overload” registration.

Students who are in an overload registration will be charged additional tuition based on the course with the fewest number of hours on their timetable. As tuition for overload activity is charged using an hourly rate, Algonquin’s approach of charging for the courses with the fewest number of hours ensures students in overload situations are paying additional tuition for course(s) with the lowest tuition fee.

International students will not be required to pay an International Student Premium on any additional courses that may put them in an overload registration; however, they will still be charged the additional tuition fees for the course(s) with the fewest number of hours.

Please note: Course overload assessments are not applicable to students registered in a collaborative program and/or to students registered in the 1935X-English for Academic Purposes for International Students (EAP) program.
