ALGONQUIN COLLEGE

EDUCATION COMMITTEE: TERMS OF REFERENCE
| EDUCATION COMMITTEE |
The Education Committee is a standing
committee of the Board of Governors of Algonquin College. |
| |
|
| FUNCTION |
The mandate of the Education Committee is
to advise the Board on the academic affairs of the College, which include, though are not
necessarily limited to, the following: |
| |
|
a. The modification of program delivery, which includes
new program approval, significant changes to programs of study and cancellation or
suspension of programs. |
| |
|
b. The establishment and/or revision of educational
policies and procedures. |
| |
|
c. The appointment of advisory committee members. |
| |
|
d. The response to the Annual Report of the Advisory
Committees. |
| |
|
e. Professional development leave activities
(Sabbaticals) undertaken during the previous academic year. |
| |
|
| TERM OF APPOINTMENT |
Each Education Committee member shall be
appointed for a term of one year, and such term may be extended for one year at a time
while the Education Committee member continues as a Governor of the College. |

| CHAIR |
The chair shall be appointed by the
Executive Committee on the recommendation of the Nominating Committee. |
| |
|
| FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS |
The Education Committee shall normally meet
on the fourth Monday of every month, from September to May. |
| |
|
| MEMBERSHIP |
Membership on the Education Committee shall
be established by the Executive Committee of the Board after consulting with Board members
to determine their preference as to the standing committee of the Board on which they wish
to serve; such preference will be honoured to the degree possible. |

|
| QUORUM |
A simple majority of the external governors
on the Education Committee shall constitute a quorum. (When Regulation 640 is amended to
allow internal members the right to vote at Board meetings, the quorum will become a
simple majority of the governors on the Committee.) |
