Retiree Extended Health Care

As a Retiree, you can elect to have Extended Health Care. There are three different Retiree Extended Health Care (EHC) plans available each with unique coverage details. This page outlines what is covered under each plan.

Coverage Provisions

    • You may decrease your EHC Plan 1 coverage to EHC Plan 2 on February 1 of any future year
    • If you elect coverage under EHC Plan 2 at some future date, EHC Plan 1 is no longer available to you
    • If you do not elect extended health care coverage under this EHC Plan 1 when you first retire, it is not available to you at any future date
    • You may cancel this coverage on the first of any month with ADVANCE written notice to your college benefits plan administrator
    • Coverage is cancelled coincident with the date you cease paying the required premium
    • Coverage is cancelled coincident with the date you no longer are eligible for coverage under a Canadian provincial or territory medicare plan

    *Note: If you do not elect coverage under any of the extended health care plans at your retirement date, the extended health care plans are no longer available to you at any future date with one exception. If you have dropped/waived the extended health care coverage because you are covered under your spouse’s/partner’s employer’s group plan, you may join the Colleges’ benefit plan within 31 days of losing the coverage under your spouse’s/partner’s plan. Proof of the loss of coverage will be required by your college benefits plan administrator.

Register: register for a web access ID and password to access your online profile with Sun Life or use the mobile app.

It is HIGHLY recommended that a predetermination be sent to Sun Life to ensure coverage. Your doctor can fax the documentation to Sun Life at 416-490-0224.
