Where and How do I Borrow from Other Libraries?

You can borrow from other libraries by:

  1. Direct Borrowing
  2. Loans

Direct Borrowing

The following libraries have agreements with Algonquin College. As an Algonquin student/staff or faculty member, you can search each library’s catalogue online, and borrow directly from that library.

  • Ontario College Libraries
    • The Ontario College Libraries Catalogue allows you to search all of the college libraries in Ontario. You can borrow directly from an Ontario college library using your current AC card as proof of eligibility. Items found at other Ontario college libraries can also be requested as an Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  • Sm@rtlibrary Partners
    • Sm@rtLibrary is a partnership of National Capital Region libraries that provides residents of the National Capital Region with access to information available through our libraries. It includes all kinds of libraries – public, academic, and specialized, providing a vast array of information for National Capital residents. Regulations regarding the consultation and loan of library materials vary by member library.
    • You need a Sm@rtLibrary card to borrow from the lending libraries. Obtain a Sm@rtLibrary card from your campus Library Front Desk to borrow or access items directly from the participating libraries. You must have a current Algonquin Library account in good standing. This card must be shown with your AC card to the relevant library’s desk when borrowing for the first time.
    • Any items borrowed must be returned to the participating library. Different policies apply to each library. For more information about Sm@rtLibrary, including a list of partner libraries, visit the SmartLibrary website.
  • Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI)
    • The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) Library contains a collection on conservation and museology. Students in the Museum Studies program are able to visit the CCI Library by appointment and borrow items. Before going to the CCI Library, students need to register in person at the Woodroffe Campus Library.

Loans

  • Interlibrary Loans (ILL). An ILL is a request to borrow books or magazine/journal articles from libraries outside of Algonquin. An ILL brings the requested item to our library. An Interlibrary loan normally takes two weeks from the date of confirmation of your request.
    • Who May Use This Service?
This service is available to current Algonquin students, faculty and staff only. Your Library account must be clear of fines and overdue material.
    • How do I Request an Interlibrary Loan?
      1. Before requesting the item you need the following information:
        • your staff/student number and your program name
        • information about the item/s you are requesting:
          • Title of Book or Article
          • Call Number (if a book)
