For Students

As an Algonquin College student, you are an important part of our journey towards a Sustainable Algonquin! (not finding much for students within the Sustainability Toolkit? We are not surprised, as the Sustainability Toolkit is intended primarily for Algonquin College employees.)

Here is your Roadmap to show that you are Caring Today, for Tomorrow:

Wondering where to start? Take 2, 10 or 30 minutes!

Eager to get involved?

  • Student-led sustainability clubs are active at Pembroke, Perth, and Woodroffe campuses. Check out existing clubs or create your own through the Students’ Association. The AC Green Team might also be of interest for students with a passion for sustainability.
  • Start building your Co-Curricular Record (CCR) today by participating in sustainability-related activities. Check out opportunities in the Volunteer Centre.

Algonquin College students fuel the momentum

Thank you for your continued involvement. It sustains the momentum towards a Sustainable Algonquin. Connect with us. Share your initiatives, big and small, and inspire others to join our journey. Include #ACSustainability in your tweets and follow us at @ACSustainble.

And do your part with a few simple steps:

Unplug at “peak”!

If a mobile device is already charged there is no need to be plugged into an outlet while on campus, especially during “peak” electricity hours.

Power Down!

Remember to turn off computers, monitors, and printers after completing work in computer labs.

Take the Stairs!

When possible, consider using the stairs instead of the elevator.

Lug-a-mug and a refillable water bottle!

You can save money by bringing your refillable coffee/tea mug, and by choosing to use a refillable water bottle rather than relying upon buying bottles of water.

Live the Algonquin College values!

Share how you care about our future and the planet. Learn about local and global environmental issues. Demonstrate your integrity and take pride in your commitment to caring today for tomorrow. Show your respect for others through good stewardship of resources.

Did you know…?

  • Algonquin College was the first Canadian college to sign the Talloires Declaration.
  • Computers and monitors in computer labs still use electricity even when in sleep mode.
  • Rain water captured on the green roof of the LEED® Platinum-certified ACCE building is used to flush toilets.
  • The Perth Campus, the Pembroke Campus, and the Robert C. Gillett Student Commons have all been built to the LEED® Gold standard for high performance buildings.
  • When you turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, you can save more than 7 litres of water per day. That amounts to 2000 litres during the school year!
  • There are 30 refillable water bottle stations on the Woodroffe campus as well as at both the Perth & Pembroke campuses.
