Frequently asked questions (For Students)

What is CAL Test Services?

CAL Test Services is located on the 3rd floor of the Student Commons (E304e) of Algonquin College.

We provide services and support for students who want to book tests with accommodations and faculty who are unable to provide the requested accommodations in the classroom.

We assist with in-person tests/exams — but we only assist with supervised tests, that is, tests that require someone to supervise students while they’re taking it.

What are the deadlines for booking a test through CAL Test Services?

You must book all tests (except final exams) at least 7 days before the day of the test. For example, if a test is on a Friday, you must request to book the test on the previous Friday before midnight.

For final exams, you must book the test before the posted deadlines for each term.

All booked tests are tentative until approved by your professor.

What if I miss the deadline for booking a test?

We cannot accept late requests.

If you feel that there are special circumstances that apply to your situation, please contact your disabilities counsellor through the Welcome Centre.

Email welcomecentre@algonquincollege.com or call 613-727-4723 ext. 7200.

What if I have a timing conflict with a test I need to take?

Contact your professor to agree to another date and time. Then, book your test again before the deadlines.

How do I access my letter of accommodation?

Students must submit a copy of their letter of accommodation to their professors at least once over the course of the term.

You can access the digital copy by logging in to the CAL Student Portal.

  • Click the “Accommodations” tab and follow the instructions on the page.
  • If you require assistance with sending your LOA to faculty, please contact your disabilities counsellor.

What do I need to do with my letter of accommodation?

Share your letter of accommodation with each of your professors at the beginning of every term. You can access the letter through the CAL Student Portal and email it to them.

What types of tests does CAL Test Services assist students with?

We assist with all supervised in-person tests — from quizzes to midterms to final exams — when your professor is unable to provide your requested accommodations in the classroom.

What is Brightspace and what do I have to do with it?

You do not need to do anything in Brightspace.

Algonquin College uses Brightspace, which is a Learning Management System, to house and manage things like training programs and materials. Your professor will make adjustments in Brightspace to your test as outlined in your letter of accommodation.

I am requesting assistive technology. What do I do?

Schedule a meeting with an assistive technologist at the beginning of the term before booking any tests.
