Completing HCRA Exams Online

Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) exams use the Honorlock virtual proctoring system. Here’s what you will need, how it works and what you can expect from the online experience.

What you will need

A laptop or desktop computer using Windows 10+, MacOSX 10.14+ or ChromeOS 93+, with a webcam and headset/earphones and microphone (tablets including iPads and smartphones are not supported).

An internet connection with enough bandwidth to reliably stream audio and video for the duration of the session (exams are recorded and take approximately two hours to complete)

Google Chrome web browser and Honorlock extension (watch a short video about How to Use Honorlock, which includes segments about installing the extension and steps you will follow to authenticate yourself on the system)

A comfortable environment, so you can focus — without interruption — on completing an exam.

The process

Register and pay for the exam you wish to complete.

Once submitted, you will receive an automated email with confirmation of your registration and other important details.

Within two business days, you will receive a follow-up email with your login information and instructions for how to connect to an online session.

Note: There is a 60-day time limit on completing an exam once started.

“Taking the time to travel to the test centres was a real expense to me as an owner/operator (factoring in fuel, travel time, parking, etc.). The online system allowed me to take the test this morning and still tackle a small job this afternoon.”
