HCRA Approved Course for Home Builders and Vendors

This comprehensive instructor-led course is designed to provide operating managers with the skills to plan, monitor and make decisions on all financial elements of a residential construction business. From the front-end demands of planning, budgeting and sourcing funds, through to cost control, cash management and financial supervision, as well as working with banks, accountants and formal financial reports. The course emphasizes understanding financial control more than the nuts and bolts of bookkeeping. The objective is to enable graduates to use financial information to assess their current situation, manage ongoing events and make sound plans for the future.

Course topics include:

  • How money flows through your company and how to track that flow
  • Accountability so that you don’t have to monitor each transaction personally
  • Interpretation of your financial statements
  • What they tell you about the status of your company today and outlook for the future
  • Elements of the business that may be straying from targets or expectations
  • The impact or value of changes to sales, investment, cost structure
  • How to adapt to those changes
  • What funding needs will be, and how to ensure access to that funding
  • The financial benefit you and other owners can derive from your effort and investment

Exam:

If you are applying for your HCRA License, successfully completing the exam is required for your application. This closed-book exam is a multiple-choice, true/false and multiple-answer format. The exam is available 24/7, an appointment is not needed, and you will have access to complete your exam for 60 days. You will have three (3) attempts to pass the exam. The pass mark is 70%.

Who should attend

  • Those interested pursuing a career path in construction management
  • Those applying for a home builder or vendor license in Ontario who needs to meet competency requirements put in place under section 38 of the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 (NHCLA)

This course is 14 hours of instruction. Course hours can be used towards the Gold Seal Certification application for credits, subject to credit approval upon review. Note: every 6 hours of learning equals 1 Gold Seal credit.
