HCRA Approved Course for Home Builders and Vendors

Using a House as a System (HAAS) approach, students will learn about the components that make up a residential dwelling and how they interact. This course is essential for those wanting a better understanding of the science behind home construction. From the foundation to the roof and the elements in between, students will explore the “why” and the “what” to gain a holistic view of modern homebuilding.

  • Elements of indoor air quality
  • Sustainable development
  • Building envelope
  • Mechanical systems
  • Engineered building components
  • Construction performance guidelines

Exam:

If you are applying for your HCRA License, successfully completing the exam is required for your application. This closed-book exam is a multiple-choice, true/false and multiple-answer format. The exam is available 24/7, an appointment is not needed, and you will have access to complete your exam for 60 days. You will have three (3) attempts to pass the exam. The pass mark is 70%. PLEASE NOTE: This is a challenging exam and considerable study time is required to pass.

Who should attend

  • Those interested pursuing a career path in construction management
  • Those applying for a home builder or vendor license in Ontario who needs to meet competency requirements put in place under section 38 of the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 (NHCLA)

This course is 14 hours of instruction. Course hours can be used towards the Gold Seal Certification application for credits, subject to credit approval upon review. Note: every 6 hours of learning equals 1 Gold Seal credit.
