Residence Waitlist – 5 things you need to know

Illustrated figures standing in front of a residence building. Our goal is to offer housing to as many waitlisted students as possible; however, we cannot guarantee that a Residence space will become available to all waitlisted students by the start of fall classes. If you find yourself on the waitlist for Algonquin College residence, it’s likely you may have some questions about what that really means.

1. Do people on the waitlist actually get offers?

Yes! Every year a number of students on the waitlist are offered residence rooms as spots become available. These are offered on a first-come-first-served based on the date of your application.

2. Is there a specific time when students on the waitlist will start to receive offers?

We review the waitlist every week and make offers based on what has become available in the last seven days. We often see the most movement of the list in June, but offers to students on the waitlist will continue until the building is filled for the year, which can run into late August or early September.

3. While I’m on the waitlist, should I also be looking for off-campus housing?

Absolutely – it is best to start immediately. If you are on the waitlist, there is no guarantee that you will get an offer for Residence. Once you find suitable accommodations, we recommend you secure the offer that comes first.

4. Where should I start my off-campus housing search?

Compare types of accommodations and do some research, here are some important FAQ to consider.

5. Where can I find my waitlist number?

To see your waitlist number you will need to log into your My Housing Portal and enter your Academic Year application. From there you will click on the waitlist/acceptance step and your waitlist number will appear.
