Composition and Design

Course: PHO5597

This course is part of the following part-time on campus and/or online program(s):

Composition is at the heart of taking better photos. Basic elements of composition and application are introduced. Students cover the history of photography and visual composition as well as current examples and practice through hands-on assignments and a field trip. Students require a camera that allows manual control of aperture and shutter speed as well as a practical knowledge of camera handling and basic photo editing skills.


Digital SLR or Mirrorless Camera required.

Also required:

  • Kit lens and a resolution of 12 mega pixels or more.
  • Must be capable of using interchangeable lenses and having manual mode.
  • Flash (either built-in or attachable).
  • 4GB or higher memory card.
  • Tripod.
