Algonquin seeks public input on its proposed Executive Compensation Program

Algonquin College will accept public input on its proposed Executive Compensation Program for a 30-day period, beginning today and ending February 1, 2017.

This draft program developed by Algonquin College’s Board of Governors is intended to help the college attract and retain exceptional leaders who can deliver a high-quality public service while exercising fiscal responsibility. The program is intended to offer a consistent and evidence-based approach to setting compensation for executives that’s research- and consultation-based.

The framework set out by the government regulation caps salary and performance-related compensation for designated executives, including presidents and vice-presidents, at the 50th percentile of an institution’s comparator group. It rules out signing and retention bonuses, cash housing allowances, and insured benefits not generally given to non-executive managers.

All employers designated under the Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Act, 2014, are covered by this regulation. These employers include school boards, government agencies, universities and colleges, and the regulation therefore applies to Algonquin College.
