Algonquin College announces Computer Programming and Analysis Advanced Diploma

OTTAWA (JAN. 11, 2023) – Algonquin College is offering an advanced credential to the competitive field of computer programing. The Computer Programming and Analysis program is part of a multi-college collaboration model that serves as a third year to the two-year Computer Programming Ontario College Diploma. Students from partner colleges complete this third year at Algonquin College using remote technologies via multimodal classrooms. Currently, Sault College has partnered in this multimodal delivery, with additional Ontario colleges expected to join in future.

Graduates from other Ontario colleges with an Ontario Computer Programming Diploma are welcome to continue their studies by applying for the Computer Programming and Analysis program, offered in-person at Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus.

“We are excited to announce the innovative Computer Programming and Analysis Advanced Diploma program, which prepares learners to meet the challenges presented by rapidly changing technology,” said Claude Brulé, Algonquin College President and CEO. “The multi-college collaboration model of this program means students from Ontario colleges have the opportunity to continue their advanced computer programming education here at Algonquin College.”

The three-year program specializes in information systems design, development and deployment. Learners develop skills in cybersecurity, emerging trends, entrepreneurship and business to bridge software development and the needs of the business world. An optional cooperative education (co-op) version of the program allows students to integrate their classroom learning with a real-world experience though two paid work terms. Continue reading

Gunn goes for gold at the Skills Canada National Competition

In less than two weeks’ time, Connor Gunn—a recent graduate of the Level 3 Auto Service Technician Apprenticeship program—will be representing Algonquin College and Ontario at the Skills Canada National Competition.

Each year, 300 skilled trade and technology students gather to compete in over 35 competition categories ranging from autobody repair to cloud computing. 

After placing first at last month’s Skills Ontario Competition, Gunn will soon be travelling over 4,000 kilometers west to Vancouver to compete against other aspiring mechanics from across the country in the Auto Technology category.

Algonquin College launches Artificial Intelligence Software Development program

OTTAWA (APRIL 20, 2022) – Algonquin College is announcing the launch of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software Development program, a one-year graduate certificate program with co-op option. Located on the Ottawa Campus, program graduates will be equipped to meet the growing market demand for AI software development expertise.

“We’re thrilled to bring this leading AI program to the learners at Algonquin College. Graduates will have a clear advantage in the artificial intelligence field with an in-depth understanding of ethical considerations within the AI landscape,” said Claude Brulé, Algonquin College President and CEO.

Program courses will explore AI techniques as applied to machine learning, troubleshooting and optimizing AI systems, configuring AI models to perform tasks autonomously, and preparing analytical reports.

“Education in artificial intelligence has traditionally been highly theoretical and employers in the industry have told us they need graduates with more practical skills and knowledge so they can be productive faster,” said Sandra Brancatelli, Academic Chair of Information & Communications Technology at Algonquin College. “We wanted to create a program that utilizes the expertise of our faculty and create pathways for our students to meet the growing needs of our employers.”

Algonquin College launches innovative new program that will Save A Seat for Women in Technology fields

Algonquin College is announcing a new program aimed at increasing the number of women in four of its most popular technology programs.

The “We Saved You a Seat” initiative is a three-year pilot program that will reserve 30 per cent of the available seats in electrical engineering technician, mechanical engineering technology, electro-mechanical engineering technician and computer systems technician for women who meet the programs’ minimum admission standards.
