Course Delivery Modalities

At Algonquin College, there are five main course instruction modes:

  1. In Person
  2. Synchronous Online
  3. Asynchronous Online
  4. Flex
  5. Hyflex

Synchronous = has scheduled classes

Asynchronous = self-directed: no scheduled classes

In addition, four of these instruction modes may include a hybrid option in which a portion of the course is delivered asynchronously online.

The term hybrid will be suppressed on the learner’s timetable in order to simplify the number of options presented.

For example In Person Hybrid will appear simply as In Person.

For this reason, you will need to clearly explain to your learners through Brightspace and in the Weekly Schedule that there is a hybrid component to the course, and clearly communicate your expectations regarding their participation in this aspect of the course.
