Framework for Quality Course Design

Introduction

Quality Course Design is a multifaceted endeavor that should be guided by current learning and teaching practices which support student success.

This framework is informed by current learning and teaching practices, course development processes at Ontario post-secondary institutions, and the standards of the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric (6th edition). The fundamentals outlined in this framework inform course development and revision, while the embedded questions are designed to provide reflective guidance that contributes to high-quality course design and can be used to inform individual faculty training needs. It is intended to support new course development of and revisions to face-to-face, hybrid, online, and multimodal courses.

This framework provides a foundation to guide course development and revisions, but it is not exhaustive. For further support, please contact the Learning and Teaching Services (LTS) team at lts@algonquincollege.com or book a one-on-one consultation with a member of LTS.
