Permanent Disability
For OSAP, a permanent disability is legally defined as a functional limitation:
- Caused by a physical or mental impairment that restricts the student’s ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate in studies at a postsecondary level or in the labour force AND
- That is expected to remain with the student for their expected life.
Funding available:
When applying for OSAP, you will be considered for these grants:
- Bursary for Students with Disabilities and Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities
- Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities
- Ontario Out-of Country Bursary for Deaf Students.
Repayment assistance for your loan:
You can also get specialized help if you are having trouble repaying a student loan.
Proof of disability:
If you indicated on you application you have a permanent disability, you will be required to provide proof for OSAP purposes.
You can bring your documents to our office. Once received, we will send it to the Centre for Student with Disabilities for assessment. You can also bring your documents to them directly and set up an appointment with a counsellor.
Once your documentation has been assessed by the CAL, they will notify us by internal mail.
