Move In Instructions

STEP 1: Plan your trip to Ottawa

Winter Term 2024 Move -In Day is Saturday, January 6th, 2024 from 9am -4pm.

If you will be arriving later that January 6th, 2024, please let us know:  info@algonquinresidence.ca

Please be advised the Residence is closed from December 18th , 2023 through January 5th, 2024 for the annual winter closedown period.  Early arrivals are not permitted.

PLEASE NOTE: For a smooth move, bring your own cart or trolley, the Residence does not have any to lend.


Move-In Assistance

Residents are welcome to have family and friends help them move-in, we ask that all be mindful of physical distancing as a health precautionary measure.

Family and friends should make hotel arrangements elsewhere if they require accommodation.

NOTE:  The Residence does not have carts nor trolley’s to borrow, we encourage you to bring your own.

STEP 2: Submit a photo for your AC Card

If you are a new student moving into Algonquin College Residence in January 2024 please upload the photo to be used on your AC Card and U-Pass by ASAP.

 

When completing the photo upload process, it is important that under the “Choose Campus” field in the form you select “Residence” as your entry. If you select any other option, your card will not be processed.

 

You will need to use your AC Card almost immediately as it is required to:

  • Access your residence room
  • Use your meal plan
  • Do laundry on site
  • Serve as your identification card on campus
  • And much more

STEP 3: Register for AC Day 1

Are you a new student?  Not sure where to start?

Algonquin College has got your back!  Register for your Program Orientation.

AC Day 1 is Monday, January 8th, 2024.  It’s a whole day dedicated to supporting you in learning about your classes and all AC Campus has to offer.

STEP 4: Start packing, but only the essentials

You may want to get a sense of the space first and talk with your roommate before bringing or purchasing items.  Also note, Family Day and Winter Break is in February, and both are good opportunities to bring anything else you need.

For move-in, it’s a good idea to label your stuff with your name and phone number.

STEP 5: Move In Day!

Arriving at Residence

1.    Once you have arrived at Algonquin College, please drive directly to Parking Lot 10 as indicated on the campus map, which is the unloading area (temporarily for move-in only). There is a stand-down (daytime only) for parking from January 6th – 7th so you will not need to pay for your parking. Please note that this is for drop-off only and there is no overnight parking in Lot 10.

2.    Please proceed to the Residence Front Desk Lobby where we will be ready to greet you and give you your keys. Prepare to present your photo ID.

3.    You will be directed on where to start unloading and allocated an elevator to use based on your room assignment.   We encourage you to bring your own cart or trolley.


Parking passes are available with Parking Services, Residence students are recommended to purchase Lot 11 permits.

AC Residence Orientation: Winter 2024

Residence Orientation runs from Sunday, January 7 – Saturday, January 13, 2024, with lots of fun events for everyone!

Residence Community Living Standard

as well as their personal and social development. We aim to ensure that it is inclusive, responsible, and respectful. The Residence
Community Living Standards (RCLS) has been created in consultation with students and staff at colleges and universities across
Canada to ensure the residence environment achieves this goal.


Move In FAQs

When can I move into Residence?

Saturday, January 6th, 2024 from 9am-4pm.

Can I move-in early?

We do not allow arrivals outside of the planned move-in dates. If you are planning to arrive later than January 7th, please let us know:  info@algonquinresidence.ca

Will move in carts be available for me to use on move in day?

The Residence does not have storage for carts nor trollies, but we recommend bringing your own for a smooth move.

Will there be people to help me move in when I arrive?

Students are welcome to invite their family and friends to help them move in.  We ask that all are mindful of physical distancing, and encourage mask wearing where physical distancing may be limited.

What happens if I arrive later than the official move in day?

If your plans change, please email us at info@algonquinresidence.ca to let us know so we can prepare for your arrival.

Can I bring my bike to Residence?

Yes you can! We have a dedicated Bike Hut in Rosser Courtyard where you can secure your bike in a covered location. Please bring a secure bike lock with you. Here is a Bike Map to all the places you can secure your bike.

To get to the Rosser Courtyard from the Front Lobby, walk across the Main Courtyard and enter into the Back Lobby. From there, follow the floor stickers to Rosser Courtyard.

Please note that the Bike Hut and Rosser Courtyard are only accessible from the Back Lobby or Stairwell A. There is no outside access.

I require accessibility accommodations, and/or a personal support worker, how do I make these arrangements?

If you have specific accommodation needs, please indicate that in your Residence application under “Special Considerations”.

Please contact Attendant Services Program (Carleton University) to make arrangements for PSW support.
